Creating a Successful Promotional Video

You’ve seen it before: an entrepreneur promoting their business, an executive training their employees, or a lawyer promoting their firm on the television. Otherwise known as a talking head video, videos such as these are used to promote a business, product, or service in the most entertaining and interesting way possible. The problem that we see with many talking videos is that they are uninteresting; your audience is looking at another talking face and it can grow old quickly. If you are thinking about creating a successful talking head video or promotional video in New Orleans, you need to take careful consideration about what you are trying to say, how you say it, and where and what you are trying to promote.

Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts of a successful promotional video:

Use Video Props

Give your actors something to do. We’re aware that you’re not trying to win an Oscar, but a few props can go a long way when trying to convey a message. Think about audience engagement and try to draw the audience’s attention. You can even try to use a whiteboard depending on the product you are pitching.

It’s Time to Act!

We’re aware that you or the person that you choose is probably not a trained actor. Even if you’re not trying to win an award, keep in mind that you are going to be the face of the business. Project your voice and speak from the diaphragm! Use expressive gestures and be excitable! Have a conversation with the camera and don’t read off the script.

Use Animation

2D or 3D animation has come a long way in the past few decades and you can use our services to dramatically increase the attention-holding nature of your video. A little animation can go a long way and can draw them in.

Use Professional Editing

Hire a professional video editing service to make sure your video looks professional. A trained professional can seamlessly blend scenes to create a very polished product. In this age, people will be able to tell if you don’t know how to edit properly.

Don’t Lose Sight of Your Purposevideo camera

Write your script, then re-read it. If you start to go off on a tangent or your monologue/dialogue starts drifting into left field, bring it back in. If you’re promoting a product, try and sell the benefits of the product and how it will make your audience’s life easier, not simply the product itself.

Don’t Be Boring

This should be rule #1 when thinking about a talking head video. You want to seem excited about your product: and the truth is, you should! This is your time to shine, and an uninteresting or boring speech is not going to make anyone want to buy your service, show, or product. At every stage of the video production, put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Would someone else want to watch this?

Don’t Forget Subtitles

You don’t necessarily need subtitles in every video. However, there are many very successful Instagram influencers that use subtitles in most of their videos in case the audience’s sound is off on their phones. A great example of this is entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk. If your speaker has a heavy foreign accent, you may want to consider the use of subtitles as well.
